Beat school holiday boredom with some simple crafts!

Make a pom-pom launcher, paper straw jewellery and a secret message decoder using paper cups, plates, straws and balloons all of which you can get at Poppies For Grace!

Pom-pom launcher

Use this easy to make pom-pom launcher to see how far or how high you can launch your pom-pom (can you beat it each time?). You can also make a target and see how many times you can hit the bullseye.

You will need:

Step 1:

Using scissors or a cutting knife, carefully cut out the bottom of the cup.

Step 2:

Cut 1-2cm off the top of the balloon. Discard the top of the balloon.

Step 3:

Stretch the cut end of the balloon over the bottom of the cup and secure with duct tape, making sure the valve of the balloon is in the centre. Tie a knot in the balloon like you would if it was full of air.

Step 4:

Decorate with washi tape then load in your pom-pom and have fun!

Paper straw bead jewellery

Create your own necklaces and bracelets to wear!

You will need:

Step 1:

Cut straws up into beads. You can make them all the same size or some small and some large or all different! If you want to make a bracelet, it's better to cut your beads on the smaller side so they sit neatly once strung on your ribbon or string.

Step 2:

Thread the paper straw beads on to the ribbon or string until you reach your desired length, leaving enough ribbon or string to tie a secure knot.

Step 3:

Secure with a knot and its ready to wear!

Secret message maker

Send secret messages to your friends for them to decode using this fun message decoder.

You will need:

Step 1:

Divide the plates into at least 32 sections (our solid colour plates have 35 creases already in them so labelling your sections will be easy!) and label the small plate 1-32 and the large plate A-Z, adding in ! an ? marks as well as a heart (and a star if you have room).

Step 2:

Pierce the centre of each plate then secure together with a paper fastener.

Step 3:

Choose a starting number and move the heart (or star if you have one) to that position. Create your secret message, making sure to note the heart starting position at the top of your message.
